Part 2: Poem that reflects to Of Mice and Men.
How happy is the little stone
That rambles in the road alone,
And doesn’t care about careers,
And exigencies never fears;
Whose coat of elemental brown
A passing universe put on;
And independent as the sun,
Associates or glow alone,
Fulfilling absolute decree
In casual simplicity.
Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)
I chose the poem to reflect to The Outsiders because it reminds me of Lennie. Everything that they describe the rock as, can also be applied to Lennie. He is happy, doesn’t care about his career, has no fears, and he is a very simple person. He is happy to have no cares and doesn’t mind that he doesn’t understand much.
(I know that I can’t have two poems from the same author, and that I already have a poem for Of Mice and Men. I just really liked this poem and thought it fit too well not to use.)
